Oxfordshire Venison was born from a deep respect for the land and wildlife. What started as a commitment to responsible deer management has grown into a passion for supplying high-quality, sustainable wild venison across Oxfordshire.

About us

Our Story

We began with a simple goal: to manage wild deer populations in a way that benefits both nature and people. Overgrazing by deer can damage woodlands, farmland, and biodiversity - but when managed ethically and professionally, deer can also be a valuable source of healthy, sustainable food.

With an abundance of wild deer in the surrounding countryside and a growing interest in where food comes from, how it’s produced, and what impact it has on the environment, we began offering our venison to local customers - honest, traceable meat from wild deer, carefully handled from field to fork.

Meet the founder

Nick Goodson grew up in rural Shropshire, where his passion for the countryside began. His grandfather, a farmer on the edge of the Wyre Forest, introduced him to the importance of deer management - for both herd health and habitat protection.

Nick also spent time in the kitchens of a local restaurant, where his love for food took root. There, he learned the value of provenance, seasonality, and low food miles - skills that deepened his appreciation for honest, traceable produce.

Now based in South Oxfordshire, Nick brings together his background in conservation and food through Oxfordshire Venison.

What matters to us?

Wild & Ethical: All our venison comes from free-ranging wild deer, managed to protect habitats, reduce environmental damage, and support biodiversity.

Sustainably Sourced: We only take what the land can support - nothing more, nothing less.

Locally Handled: From responsible harvesting to skilled butchery, everything is done locally with care and respect.

Supporting the Countryside

By choosing wild venison, you’re doing more than just putting quality food on your table - you’re directly supporting the conservation of Oxfordshire’s landscapes. Ethical deer management helps woodlands regenerate, farmland flourish, and native wildlife thrive.

For Local Landowners

We currently manage deer across a number of estates and farms throughout Oxfordshire, working closely with landowners to protect crops, support woodland regeneration, and maintain a healthy balance in the local deer population.
